Fantasy stories
from archive.org

Alan Garner is an English novelist best known for his fantasy novels and his retellings of traditional British folk tales. Much of his work is rooted in the landscape, history and folklore of his native county of Cheshire, North West England, being set in the region and making use of the native Cheshire dialect.

His first novel, The Weirdstone of Brisingamen, was published in 1960. A fantasy novel set on Alderley Edge, it incorporated elements of local folklore in its plot and characters. Garner wrote a sequel, The Moon of Gomrath (1963), and a third book, Boneland (2012). He wrote other fantasy novels, including Elidor (1965) and The Owl Service (1967)

This is a collection of BBC Radio productions of Garner's fantasy dramas; weird and marvellously evocative tale of Celtic mysteries, elves, spirits and strange presences.....

Boneland
The crowning achievement of Alan Garner's astonishing career, 'Boneland' concludes the story that began over fifty years ago in 'The Weirdstone of Brisingamen'. If the sleeper wakes, the dream dies. . .Professor Colin Whisterfield spends his days at Jodrell Bank, using the radio telescope to look for his lost sister in the Pleiades. At the same time, and in another time, the Watcher cuts the rock and dances, to keep the sky above the earth and the stars flying. Colin can't remember; and he remembers too much. Before the age of twelve years and nine months, everything is a blank. After that he recalls everything, in every minute of every hour of every day. But if he wants to find his sister, Colin will have to unlock his memory of what happened when he was twelve. And the Watcher will have to find the Woman. Otherwise the skies will fall, and there will be only winter, wanderers and moon. . .
