Baldi
from archive.org

Paolo Baldi is a Roman Catholic priest. Despite his name, he works in Ireland - his parents moved to Ireland before he was born. He is going through a crisis of faith and has obtained permission to take a sabbatical, in which time he takes up a post as a lecturer in moral philosophy at an un-named Dublin University. Misfortune leads the police to ask him for help - the victim was Italian - and thereafter he finds himself in the proximity of other murders and Baldi turns amateur sleuth. A further complication arises in his growing attachment to police officer Tina Mahon - who is initially unaware that he is a Catholic priest.
