Dick George - Private Investigator

1980s spoof of 1930s comedy thrillers
from archive.org

In the 1960s, actor Francis Matthews channeled Cary Grant when performing the voice of Captain Scarlet on TV. Twenty years later he put the same impersonation to good use in 3 BBC radio plays in the series The Casebook of Dick George - Private Investigator. He was aided and abetted by Margaret Robertson, doing her best Katherine Hepburn and Lisa Jacobs as the "girl in distress" sounding just like Gloria Grahame. The series, written by Sarah Maxwell and directed by Glyn Dearman, was an affectionate spoof of 1930s Hollywood films.

The series was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1986.
