Series Description:

THE SHADOW OF FU MANCHU presented, in serial form, the novels "The
Insidious Fu Manchu", "The Hand of Fu Manchu", and "The Return of
Fu Manchu". The three novels were dramatized in 39 15-minute
episodes. "The Insidious Fu Manchu" was covered in 24 episodes,
the bulk of series. "The Hand of Fu Manchu" took only 3 episodes
while "The Return of Fu Manchu" to the remaining 12 episodes. The
complete serial ran Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, for 13 weeks.

Main members of the cast were Gale Gordon, Hanley Stafford and
Gerald Mohr.

More episodes were produced beyond the 39 mentioned above. It has
been reported that the actual number of episodes is 156. A single
episode, entitles "The Purple Spot" is in circulation that appears to
match the opening chapter of "Fu Manchu's Bride", the sixth novel
published. The 2 interviening novels are "The Daughter of Fu Manchu"
and "The Mask of Fu Manchu". Perhaps these 2 novels are covered by
the 116 episodes that are not currently in circulation.

Log Comments:

The episodes were untitled, so there is much disagreement in the
catalogs I found these shows. I've decided to use the titles from
Steve Kelez' Radio Showcase catalog, since I felt they were simple
and descriptive. Steve also included novel titles and actors'
names.

Since the serial was syndicated, broadcast dates differ in different
parts of the country. The dates from the Radio Memories, RHAC
catalogs and Jerry Hanediges' log were the earliest found and are
used here.

During the early part of January 2001, there was some discussion in
the Internet OTR digest that Ted Davenport (Radio Memories) had
acquired a large number of the missing episodes. Bravo, Ted! Keep
an eye on his web site (http://www.old-time.com) for updates.

According to Ted's information, there were four serials. All
episodes in current circulation come from the first serial, except
the one odd episode mentioned in the Description. For this log, I've
assumed all four serials ran contigious, all aired Monday, Wednesday
and Friday. Hopefully, this can be verified or corrected as more
information becomes available.
