Trueman & Riley

BBC radio crime drama from 2005-2012
from archive.org

A smart, entertaining crime drama starring Robert Daws as Trueman and Duncan Preston as Riley. Written by BAFTA-winning dramatist Brian B. Thompson. Produced and directed by Toby Swift and Jenny Stevens.

First broadcast as Trueman, the pilot episode centres around a student found shot dead. 'Angel Heights' sees Trueman and Riley reexamining the death of a jockey, while in 'The Road to Hull', two brothers claim to have given up their life of crime, but then a corpse turns up. In 'High Windows', a film crew making a biopic of Philip Larkin is plagued by pranks.

Renamed Trueman and Riley, Series 1 opens with the detectives relocated from Hull to Leeds, where they probe a man's disappearance in 'Vanished'. In 'Story', a journalist falls from a building. The duo search for a stolen ring in 'Bond' and in 'Speed', Riley is on the trail of a familiar ex-con.

In Series 2's 'The Road to Nowhere', the pair investigate a burglary upsurge. The near-drowning of an ex-student leads to the unearthing of an old secret in 'The Three Degrees', and a male midwife is suspected of stealing from pregnant women in 'A Man's World'. Passions run high after an arson attack in 'The Other Chic', and the duo is sucked into the world of online role-playing in 'Love Bytes'.

Series 3's 'Every Dog Has His Day' sees the detectives getting a murder case - only it's a dog. In 'Angel Delight', they look into a robbery, and in 'Family Business', they investigate a man who goes missing with ?98,000 of bookie's winnings. An environmental activist is knocked off his bike in 'Green Machine', and in 'Home Truths', Trueman and Riley's investigative skills are challenged by a 14-year-old.
