BBC Radio 1 comedy series from 1990

Award-winning controversial comedy surfaced on Radio 1 in 1990 in the shape of Victor Lewis-Smith. The writer and radio and TV producer took a darkly comic cudgel to the self-satisfied, mid-Atlantic style of the very network he was appearing on.

Featuring some of his notorious hoax calls to the White House and the Abandoned Life Pro Group (USA), and his take on local radio - "Radio Middle-of Sodding-Nowhere". All created and recorded by Lewis-Smith at time which stretched production techniques to breaking point.

The series later jumped to TV in 1993 in BBC Two's Inside Victor Lewis Smith, with later controversy stirred in TV Offal on Channel 4 (1998).

The radio series remains one of the most challenging comedy creations of the 1990s. It was crowned top radio comedy in the 1990 British Comedy Awards.
